Academic Preparation SOSNC - Study and Organizational Skills Monday June 25, 2012 - Friday July 6, 2012 Price: $415.00 Study and Organizational Skills (SOSNC) is for students entering Grades 7-9. Acclaimed teacher Mike King teaches strategies to help students use their time properly, improve their listening ability, take notes skillfully, study for and take tests, and submit better prepared and written assignments. It helps students learn how to learn and to understand the importance of being well organized. This course will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm for the 9 days. On Canada Day, July 1st, there will be no class.
IBESY1 - IB Essay Workshop Monday June 18, 2012 - Thursday June 21, 2012 Price: $200.00 This course will help students complete the research for their IB Extended Essay (EE). Students will be given detailed instructions on research methods from experienced EE supervisors, as well as librarian-teachers from both Ashbury College and Carleton University. By the end of the week, they will have a detailed outline ready to help them write the first draft of their extended essay. Daily Schedule
FRENC - French Preparation Course Monday June 25, 2012 - Friday July 6, 2012 Price: $350.00 The course is intended for current Grade 6 students (Core) who want to improve their skills in the French language and who are perhaps contemplating a move to a more advanced level in the future. This two-week course will be led by one of the Junior School French teachers, M. Romain Décotte. The students will: • Work towards expectations from the Ontario Curriculum. • Be exposed to the target language at all times. • Consolidate prior learning. • Use a variety of themes such as Family and Friends, Food and Drink, Health, Tourism, Past and Future events. The course will offer a variety of activities such as Smartboard, Role Plays, Conversations, Video, and Audio contents. This course will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm for the two weeks.
ENGCW - 1 - Summer School Creative Writing Program Monday June 25, 2012 - Friday June 29, 2012 Price: $325.00 This course is offered to students in grades 7-9 who are interested in educating their imaginations through the involvement of their brains in creative writing and illustration. Skills of observation, description, explanation, reading aloud, speaking, and narration will be developed in a range of exercises that combine language and visual arts. A typical morning will involve exercises in improvised and prepared speaking, writing, reading, and editing in workshop sessions. Afternoon sessions will be devoted to presentations and the illustration of their compositions in a range of media such as photography, painting, computer art, and drawing. Students will leave the course with a portfolio of their finished creative material and a more confident sense of themselves as communicators. Enrolment in this program will be limited.
